Amoudara: 6 km west of Iraklion has a kilometre long sandy
beach; surfing area, power station at the end of the beach.

Kokkini Hani: 10 km east of Iraklion has a ca. 1.5 km long
sandy beach (in places coarse sand). Here and there rock plateaux in the water.

Analipsi/Anissara: Long fine and coarse sand beach, broken
up here and there by rocks on the beach and in the sea.
|

Hersonissos: Too little room for too many
guests.
|
|

|
Malia: Kilometre long beach; palm beach near the palace of Malia.

Plaka: has 2 bays and
a 250 m long shingle beach, which
falls steeply into the water and is therefore not ideal for children.

Almiros: a ca. 300 m fine sandy beach, falling gently into the water making
it ideal for children.

Itanos: Lies on the extreme northeast coast of Crete. There are 2 coarse
sand/shingle beaches to be found here.

Ierapetra: a 200 m long coarse sand beach is near to the centre. West and
east of
the harbour, there are a kilometre long coarse sandy beaches.

Chrissi: island across from Ierapetra, with white sand and dunes.

Lendas: a small shingle/sand beach directly at the town; just outside there is a long, fine sandy beach.

Matala: Directly by the town there is a 300 m long coarse sand/shingle
beach.

Komo/Kalamaki: Here there is a kilometre long sandy beach (komos) with few
facilities but plenty of tavernas.

Preveli: palm beach, fine sand, 10 minutes on foot or reached by boat from Agia
Galini or Plakias.

Plakias: has a ca. 2 km long coarse sand beach with
few facilities.

Frangokastello: The beach of Frangokastello stretches over 300 m and is
fine sand.

Agia Roumeli: A shingle beach forms the end of the Samaria Gorge.

Paleochora: At the edge of the town there is a ca. 2 km long fine sandy

Elafonissi: Paradise on Crete; kilometres of white sandy beach.

Almirida: Directly by the town there is a ca. 500 m long sandy beach,
gently sloping and making it ideal for children.

Georgioupolis: By the town, and in an easterly direction, several
kilometres of sandy beaches.

Rethymno: Has a long sandy beach, which stretches ca. 16 km from the town
towards the east.

Bali: Directly by the town there are fine sandy beaches to be found.

Agia Pelagia: relatively narrow, fine and coarse sandy beach; several
small adjoining bays.
