In Vathipetro ca. 5 km south of Archanes and standing on a plateau are the remains of a Minoan estate from the year 1580 BC.
In this area, where still today the best grapes on the island thrive, the Minoans were already cultivating grapes and witness to this is a well-preserved wine press from this period.
Judging by the finds, the estate was left 50 years after building began and was never finished.
The oil and wine presses, pithoi (storage jars) and weaving looms, which were found here, as well as the pottery workshop south of the estate are traces of life on a wonderfully situated country estate, which was left behind long ago.
