Falassarna used to be the port of ancient Polyrhinia. Its port was closed-in and surrounded by walls, connected to the sea only by a canal. Now port and canal have given way to agriculture, because the earth layer lays approx. 5 metres higher; today the sea is 100 m away from the port.
The remaining ruins are part of the city walls as well as those of the cyclopean walls, defence towers, foundations of houses and remains of the temple dedicated to Artemis or Apollona.
Present day Falassarna is a quiet resort, with many small hotels, apartments and taverns, close to a wonderful sandy beach. Here the visitor can admire the magnificence of the archaic landscape and the blue sky.
