The town of Gouves is ca. 18 km east of Heraklion and consists of two parts:the lower (Kato) and the upper (Pano).
Kato Gouves is a small holiday resort directly at the sea with nice bays where various types of water sports are available.
The town has a colourful shopping area with supermarkets and souvenir shops. Bars and taverns provide for entertainment.
The traditional village of Gouves with its narrow alleys, original cafenions and taverns is ca. 2 km above the main road. From Gouves a road leads to the village of Skotino, where there is a cave with the same name and which was once an important cult site.
