Anopolis is a traditional mountain village, some 15 km south east of Heraklion, with narrow streets and flower-filled yards.The whole area around the village is full of olive trees.
The typical village square is a pleasant place to spend some time. Here one can enjoy a coffee, a Raki (Cretan spirit) or even traditional Cretan food whilst chatting away with the local villagers.
In the village there is a mini market, several cafenions and tavernas. More shops can be found in the nearby village of Kokkini Hani only 4,5 km away, where there is also the nearest beach.
Especially interesting for children is the nearby water park with waterslides.
The wine producing area of Archanes, the excavations of the palaces of Knossos and Malia, the Archanes, as well as the south coast can easily be reached from here.
