The village of Episkopi lies ca. 9 km south of the village of Kolimbari.
Outside of the former bishopric in a valley rich in vegetation stands the Church of The Archangel Michael, probably built in the 10th century and which is interesting even for a layman.
The church has a dome, unique for Crete, with 5 terraces (Rotonda) and stands on the foundations of an early Christian basilica.
The inside of the church is characterised by arches, which support the cylindrical shaped dome. Several layers of wall paintings from different periods have also been discovered. Part of a mosaic floor and a stone font are still quite well preserved.
Since 1993 archaeologists have been exposing graves around the church and which are probably from early Christian periods.
