The village of Komitades lies at the exit of the Chora Sfakion and 10 km from Chora Sfakion.
Pirates destroyed the village several times. During one of these attacks the villagers prayed to St. George for help. After the village had been spared a wonderful church was built, decorated with exquisite frescoes painted by Ioanmnis Pagomenos, who was famous at this time.
Around the village there are many caves and in one of them, outside the Imbros Gorge, is the chapel of Agios Pavlos.
400 m south of the crossroads to Chora Sfakion is the Monastery Panagia Thymian, built in 1500 and dedicated to the Holy Mother of God and whose icon was found under a thyme bush.
