The deserted village of Aradhena lies on the western side at the beginning of the Aradhena Gorge at a height of 600 m.
Here once existed the Minoan town of Aradin, very few ruins of which can be seen today. Worth visiting is the church of Archangelos Michalis with its prominent shape and tiled dome, and where one can still see some beautiful preserved frescoes.
An iron bridge connects both sides of the gorge and is at the same time the connecting road to Anopolis.
One sees on both sides the many serpentines of the old road leading down into the gorge, one of them is used to get into or out of the gorge.
