The monastery of Agia Irini stands on the eastern slopes of the Ida Mountains above the village of Krousonas in a beautiful environment and surrounded by many flowers.
The monastery was founded after World War II on the same site as an older one, which was destroyed in 1822. At that time the Turks killed all the monks and the monastery fell into ruin.
After WorldWar II nuns settled here and reconstructed the ruined buildings. During the reconstruction they found buried in the ground crosses and other sacred vessels, which had been used by the monks before 1821. The vessels are preserved in the convent in remembrance.
