"The Valley of the Dead" lies right in the east of the province of Lassithi. The gorge starts in the village of Zakros and ends at the beautiful bay of Kato Zakros near the excavation site of the Minoan Palace.
This gorge is of outstanding beauty. In the rock faces, which rise to a height of 350 m, are caves which were used as burial places in Minoan times and from which the gorge takes its name.
The route through the gorge is good and takes about 2 ½ hours. Depending on the time of year, the stream dries up completely.
At the bay of Kato Zakros there are several taverns to look after your well-being.
