The Imbros Gorge begins after the last houses of the village of Komitades at the south coast.
The ca. 8 km long gorge runs partly on old paved roads, being once the connection between north and south coast. The gorge is adorned by naked cliff faces and a richness of cypress trees and bushes.
The gorge meanders like a snake and is so narrow at one point, that one can touch both walls with outstretched hands.
As in all the Sfakian ravines it became a refuge for Christians during the Turkish occupation and a base for revolutionists.
It is possible to walk through the Imbros from either end and takes about 2 - 2½ hours.
